About the Event
The National Museum, Benin City began in the 1940s as a repository for the royal collection of Oba Akenzua II. In 1973, Late Brigadier S.O. Ogbemudia, the Military Governor of the then Midwest State, constructed and donated to the Antiquities Commission (now NCMM), a three-floor concentric building which served, and still serves, as the exhibit gallery. Â Â Initially, exhibitions were mounted on the ground and first floors only: the 2nd top floor was empty. This situation remained until 2006 when a Benin art lover, patron, and good friend of the museum, Princess Irene Ododo-Odaro sponsored the third exhibition on the last floor. Â Â However, all three exhibitions were de-installed in 2016.......
